1975 Securitas/Securiton acquires Contrafeu AG

“Der Bund” (2 May 1975): “The Securitas/Securiton Group from Bern-Zollikofen has acquired Contrafeu AG from Münsingen, which belongs to the Fibora Group, in order to expand its product range in line with the market and maintain a modern product policy. Securiton AG, which has also specialised in intrusion and hold-up alarm systems for several years, is thus able to supplement its fire detection range with mobile and stationary extinguishing systems, in particular automatic sprinkler systems. For its part, Contrafeu AG will be able to further increase its competitiveness in the field of firefighting as a result of this cooperation.”

Founded in 1817, Contrafeu AG was managed until 1956 under the sole proprietorship of Ferdinand Schenk, headquartered in Worblaufen (BE). In 1957, it was renamed “Contrafeu AG, formerly Ferdinand Schenk”. Under this name, the company moved to Münsingen (BE) in 1958, where it has operated since 1972 under the name Contrafeu AG. The company owns the factory property at Sägestrasse 2 in Münsingen, which also comes with a rail connection. Contrafeu AG manufactures, assembles, installs and sells firefighting equipment and props, firefighting and fire extinguishing products, and also mobile and stationary extinguishing systems (also known as sprinklers).

A sprinkler system consists of sprinkler nozzles mounted in a certain layout and sealed with a heat-sensitive release element, a pipe network and a suitable water supply. As soon as a single sprinkler is triggered by the heat from a fire, the fire alarm point is automatically alerted in addition to the extinguishing process. The most significant recent order for Contrafeu AG was installing the fire extinguishing system at the new shopping centre “Shoppyland” in Schönbühl (BE), where about 5,500 sprinkler nozzles were installed alone.
